The AWR environment is based on the concept of Simulation On Demand.  This means you define what you want to see and then tell the software to produce those analyses.

So, you press the lightning bolt what you are telling the software is to update all your graphs.  If you don't have any graphs with measurements then the software has nothing to do.  All you need to do is create your graphs and measurements and press the lightning bolt again.
